Meeting with the officials of Astan Quds Razavi, the religious scholars of Mashhad namely Ayatollahs Sayyedan, Rezazadeh and Ashrafi Shahroudi, have expressed their opinion on the practice of hygiene in the holy shrine of Imam Reza (AS).

Referring to the prevalence of coronavirus in the country, Ayatollah Seyyed Jafar Sayyedan, said, “The practice of hygiene and medical instructions is necessary. This is so important that following the instructions of a true expert, even if an infidel, is necessary.”
Pointing to the Islamic orders for health, he added, “Islamic principles, including bathing and ablution, are rooted in the same hygiene. Therefore, everyone should respect personal hygiene, especially in the current exceptional circumstances. Hygiene in all places, especially in sacred places, is a rational and religious practice.”
Ayatollah Rajabali Rezazadeh, in a separate meeting with AQR officials stated that under the present conditions, in-person initiation to the holy shrine is not necessary and pilgrims and neighbors can earn the grace of the pilgrimage by reciting the Prayer of Imam Reza, so God willing, the danger would be alleviated by resorting to Imam Reza (AS).
Ayatollah Mostafa Ashrafi Shahroudi, another religious scholar in Mashhad, believes that due to the spread of the coronavirus, there is no need for the presence of pilgrims and neighbors in the holy shrine and a remote call will suffice.
At the beginning of these separate meetings, the officials presented a report on the AQR activities to prevent the spread of the virus.
