In the name of God, Most Merciful, Most Compassionate
“Praise be to Allah Lord of the worlds, greet Ali bin Musa, whom you made him your beloved, and by whom you pleased whoever you liked from your creations. Peace be upon you, Musa bin Ja’far, and his mercy and blessings be upon him.
Dear Iranian people, I extend my greetings and sincerity to you. First, I express my condolences on the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Kazem (AS) to the sacred presence of Imam Reza (AS), and then to all Muslims and all Shiites and all the devotees of the Infallible Imams (AS).
Oh, the transformer of conditions, change ours to the best in accordance with your will.
Happy New Year to all dear servants and loved ones. May this new year be accompanied by blessings, spirituality, joys and successes. This year’s Eid coincides with the great Eid of humanity, the first revelation of the Prophet of Islam (pbuh), who these days humans need his luminous teachings and the guidance of the Infallible Imams (AS) more than ever before. We hope that we all belong to the nation of the Prophet and be among the followers of his infallible offspring. God willing.
We passed a bitter-sweet year, the devastating flood earlier last year, and the martyrdom of the great commander of Islam, Lt. Gen. Qassem Soleimani, the crash of a passenger plane, were all the bitterness of last year; yet these events had sweetness and beauties within themselves. The presence of the people, the committed presence of all walks of life in the flood incident and taking care of the people who had suffered so much, this empathy, loyalty and kindness is very valuable.
The epic presence of the people at the funeral of Haj Qassem Soleimani, which was truly unique in the history of humanity; these were the sweetness of last year. And at the end of last year, and presently we are facing a bitter truth, and a virus that has caught the world and has not spared us.
A group of our loved ones, a group of health staff, dear physicians and dedicated nurses have lost their lives in this catastrophe, but the sacrifice of our medical staff was the sweetness.
We also had some bitterness in the holy city of Mashhad, the city of Imam Reza. Today, we should have welcomed millions of pilgrims in his holy shrine. Last year, on such a day, millions of lovers and pilgrims were in the courtyards of Imam Reza (AS) holy shrine, and we served them, but this year, we are deprived of their presence. Every year, especially during these 30 years, the Leader of the Islamic Revolution used to attend Mashhad and give us a very impressive speech, but this year we are bereft of this grace. The bitterest of these cases was the restriction of pilgrimage. A very difficult and agonizing decision indeed.
Sometimes, in our greetings, we used to say to Imam Reza: Peace be upon you, the stranger amongst strangers; but we never felt and understood the emotion. Today, though, his courtyards are empty of pilgrims and we understand it. Although the pure hearts and the love of millions of beloved devotees of the Infallible Imams perform pilgrimage in his shrine and their hearts are here, we are deprived of pilgrims physical attendance this year. A very difficult and overwhelming decision without exaggeration reminding of drinking poison. But we had no choice. We made this bitter decision to protect the lives of our beloved pilgrims and guests, in accordance with the religious duty, the advice of the scholars and the great religious authorities, and to all dear pilgrims and neighbors, dear compatriots and all lovers of the Infallible Imams and Imam Reza, who would like to start their new year in his shrine like in previous years, we apologize to all of you.
We made this bitter decision for the sake of your health, and I need to thank the honorable Leader’s representative in the province, the noble scholars of Khorasan and Mashhad, and understanding and insightful people, who accompanied us and they did not let the bitterness of this poison become bitterer to us.
I really bow my head to this insight, timeliness and understanding of the day’s situation from both great and respected scholars and dear and understanding people. As the Imam Ali (AS) said: This knowledge holds only to the people of insight and patience. God willing, by the favor of Imam Reza (AS), this calamity will be removed from our country and all countries as soon as possible, and this limitation of pilgrimage will not be prolonged, making us able to continue to serve all pilgrims.”
Wish you all peace, mercy and blessings of God
