AQR chief custodian tells holy shrine’s untold stories during pandemic
Astan Quds Razavi’s chief custodian Hoj. Ahmad Marvi has talked about untold stories of Imam Reza (AS) holy shrine during coronavirus outbreak, introducing the center’s closure as the most difficult and bitter decision for the organization.

“Huge number of Iranian physicians and nurses made great sacrifices during the viral pandemic and many of them became lost their lives. We do appreciate their round the clock efforts and sacrifices,” he noted.
Pointing to the closure of the Imam Reza (AS) holy shrine during the coronavirus outbreak, AQR chief custodian said: “Closing the holy shrine was a very hard job to do. According to the existing documents, Imam Reza (AS) holy shrine had never been closed even in the biggest historical incidents; we made this very difficult decision for maintaining people’s health, however. We were under intense pressure in those days.”
Marvi added: “When the issue brought up, I consulted Ayatollah Safi Golpayegani, Ayatollah Makarem Shirazi, and Ayatollah Noori Hamedani over the closure of the complex during the pandemic. They all insisted on implementing decisions of the National Ant-Corona Headquarters based on which temporary closure of the Razavi Complex had been recommended”.
He added: “Many proud manifestations of service, sacrifice, and altruism were created by nurses and doctors all over the country. These endeavors made by the medical staff created a strong bond between them and ordinary people which must be protected even for the post-corona period. This was a positive aspect for Covid-19”.
Elsewhere in his remarks, he introduced growing connection between science and religion as another positive aspect the Covid-19 story and stated: “There was a heavy propaganda against religious centers at first inducing possible deviations of sacred centers from observance of health protocols; however, Ayatollah Khamenei expressed that faithful people will observe these protocols more than others and this really happened.”
Hoj. Marvi also said that Iranian people showed their morality, rich culture, and altruistic manner during the outbreak as compared to other nations. Different groups of people were gathered to support others; this popular spirit must be protected and maintained.”
