Imam Reza (AS), well-versed scholar in Quranic debates: Member of Assembly of Experts
Ayatollah Abd-khodaei who was addressing participants of “Imam of Dialogue” webinar stated: “The Holy Quran has for many times made mention of interaction, supporting it not only with followers of the holy books but also with pagans. We can see a wide range of audience in the Holy Quran.”
Referring to 13th verse of Surah al-Hujurat, he stressed: “This verse addresses all the humanity. “The most noble of you in the sight of Allah is the most righteous one”. This verse says that Allah has created humans in different colors and tribes so that they can know each other. The verse also says that the definite criteria for people’s superiority is nothing but piety. The human’s happiness comes to reality in the shade of piety and lack of tyranny and suppression. It is not a question of race, nationality, skin color, male or female; rather, the main criterion for human superiority is piety”.
Elsewhere in his remarks, the ayatollah referred to the verse 64 of Al-e Imran, adding: “According to this verse, the audience is the Christians who have accepted God. The verse also emphasizes worshiping of God and dialogue. Since we have many common points with the followers of other religions and we believe in God, religion, resurrection and morality, we must be united and do not let some infidels play with our holy symbols”.
He further noted: “We should not allow secular groups to take over the power of societies and play with the prestige of Islam, Judaism and Christianity.”
Noting that according to Surah al-Mumtahanah, Quran speaks in support of the suppressed and fighting the oppressors, the ayatollah underscored standing with Palestinians who have been under Israel’s oppressions for years.
Referring to Imam Reza’s (AS) methods of debates, Ayatollah Abd-khodaei said: “In addition to providing firm reason and logic in his discussions, the Imam behaved in a way that all present people became fascinated by his sobriety and pious morality. Although Imam Reza (AS) was in top level of power and glory, he allowed the interlocutor to speak”.
Abd-khodaei went on to say: “Whoever wants to speak at international arena must pay attention to the content and manner of expression. He must be familiar with other religions and have enough fluency and skill in discussion”.
According to And-khodaei, Imam Reza (AS) had a strong and firm wording in terms of content whether with faithful people or non-faithful ones.
Abd-khodaei referred to Imam Reza’s (AS) Silsilat al-Zahab tradition and said: “Monotheism is the foundation for happiness of every human being and it is the axis of all Muslim deeds. In the debate between Imam Reza (AS) and the Christian scholar Catholicos, the Imam spoke in such a way that the scholar could not interfere with it; Even the scholar himself acknowledged the high scientific position and acquaintance of Imam Reza (AS) with the Torah”.
