Referring to various cultural and social activities of the organization in Tanzania during his meeting with officials of Imam Reza International University, Mohammad Hasan Rajani, head of the Tanzanian NGO, said: “WIPAHS has got many affiliated schools, mosques, and medical centers in Dar es Salaam and other cities in Tanzania which offer various services to the Shia people of the country”.
Rajani added: “Students studying in this organization need to continue their education in higher education institutes. Many American, European and Australian countries offer different supports for this group of students, but we prefer these people to study in a country like Islamic Republic of Iran which is the center of the Shia world”.
The meeting was continued by explanations of officials of Imam Reza International University on records of the center, its areas of research, and number of its international students.
The two sides agreed on signing a memorandum of understanding as starting point for new bilateral cooperation. It was also decided that WIPHAS takes first steps for teaching Persian language to the Tanzanian applicants in Dar es Salaam through a cooperation with Iran’s cultural advisory.
WIPAHS was founded in 1988 as a religious and humanitarian Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) establishing its headquarters in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. It was envisaged by a group of individuals, both working class and professionals who desired to respond to the call of the poor and needy, especially women who are the most vulnerable walks of life in the society.
