Khuddam (Servants)
Being a servant of the holy shrine of Imam Reza (A.S.) is the aspiration of any pilgrim. The holy shrine has a large number of Khuddam, many of which do services voluntarily. About 4493 individuals from different classes of people including Ulama (clergies), university professors, engineers, physicians, and merchants sincerely and voluntarily offer services to the respected pilgrims in the holy shrine.
Nearly 1000 servants work in 8 shifts in the holy shrine. They deliver their shifts in a special ceremony and do their responsibilities at the locations determined by the supervisor.

The most significant duties accomplishing by these servants are as follows: getting to work on time, dusting the porticos according to the arranged schedules, washing and dusting the holy Zarih, carrying out duties in front sides of the entrances of the holy shrine, porticos and the holy burial chamber determined by the Khuddam Affairs Office, locking and unlocking the doors of the holy shrine carried out by the supervisor on duty or his deputy, participating on time in the ceremonies of Khutbah (oration) delivered on the occasion of the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Reza (A.S.) and also on the occasion of Ashura and Sham-i-Ghariban, perfectly enforcing the duties determined in the service charter of Astan Quds Razavi, wearing special uniforms decorated with a special badge, and putting utmost attention to their appearance and also observing the Islamic behavior and virtues.

The Servants (Khadamah) Management is one of the subordinate departments supervised by the Assistance Office of the Sacred Premises and Pilgrims' Affairs. This management consists of servants including Farrashan (sweepers), Huffaz (reciters), Doorkeepers, and Shoe-keepers.

Each office in this management has special duties. The servants commence their work after the religious ceremonies of "Suffah and "Khutbah” (oration) which are held in Dar-al-Huffaz or Dar-al-Salam porticos every morning. Each of the mentioned offices offer services to the respected pilgrims in 8 shifts round-the-clock.
