An overview of Deposits and Lost Objects Office Activities of Razavi Holy Shrine

After the explosion event in the holy shrine of Imam Reza (A.S.), a variety of security measures were taken to prevent the occurrence of similar events, one of which was catching the unnecessary goods and some prohibited items of pilgrims before entering the inspection gates of the Razavi Holy Shrine.
For this purpose, the Deposits and the Lost Objects Office of the Razavi Holy Shrine is running in order to benefit more pilgrims from the pilgrimage spaces as well as to create more security for pilgrims of Ali ibn Musa al-Reza (A.S.).
Most pilgrims and even Mashhad citizens might summarize the activities of this office only in receiving the deposits at the entrances of the Razavi Holy Shrine, but the office has five especial responsibilities with more than 2,000 honorable and official forces.

Getting the Deposits
Pilgrims should deliver, before entering the inspection gate, their unnecessary and prohibited articles such as knives, cameras, sprayers, etc., to the nearest deposit office, often located at the entrances of the Razavi Holy Shrine and get back their deposited items after the pilgrimage and before leaving the sacred premises by offering the receipt.
At the six entrances of the Razavi Holy Shrine, there are thirty deposit booths separated by brothers and sisters, with more than 160 staff members responsible for taking over and giving back the pilgrims' equipment daily. These offices, with a daily capacity of 40,000 items, serve sixteen million pilgrims annually.

Wheelchair Delivery
The main activity and the most forces of deposit office of the Holy Shrine are designated to the wheelchair affair that is divided into two activities.
The first is delivery of deposited wheelchair to disabled pilgrims by presenting a valid ID card and delivering it to the office after the end of the pilgrimage.
Another task of this section, which is similar to all Astan Quds Razavi services, is the transfer of sick and elderly pilgrims from the nearby streets to the entrances of the Razavi Holy Shrine.
This section renders service to the pilgrims of the Holy Shrine of Ali ibn Musa al-Reza (A.S.) by its 1800 voluntary forces working in seven offices (five offices in five holy shrine entrances and two offices in parking lots No.1 and No.3) at eight 24-hour working shifts.

Receiving Cash Deposits
Pilgrims can deliver their cash money or valuable goods such as gold, mobile, etc. to ten offices located at the entrances of the holy shrine, the courtyards, and the porticos and take them back after pilgrimage.
In these offices with 45 official forces, the deposited items are packaged and stamped before the pilgrim, and the pilgrim can get back the item and at any time with the receipt.

Receiving and Refunding of Found Objects and Money
In this section whose main office is located at the Ghaidr courtyard, 28 staff are receiving and refunding the found cashes or objects delivered by pilgrims or servants of the holy shrine.

Providing Chādors and Blankets to Pilgrims
With the order of the Grand Custodian of Astan Quds Razavi and stressed by Assistant of Sacred Premises and Pilgrims Affairs of Astan Quds Razavi, Sheikh Tusi and Hur-e Ameli porticos were prepared for the nightly rest of pilgrims; hence, more than 200 blankets are provided every night for pilgrims and in the morning of the next day, the blankets are taken back, washed and packed for the next night. Also more than 2500 Chādors are delivered daily to the sisters at the entrances of the Razavi Holy Shrine that are washed after each use.
